DCA Core Values

In order to continue the growth of DCA as a premium company, we need to define some core values from which we can continue to develop our brand, our culture, and our strategies.  It is from these core values that we can evolve the business and stay ahead of our competition. Our values effectively represent us and how we work together.

DCA Core Values

DCA’s Core Values are:

     1. Provide some ‘wow’

     2. Have fun and be an individual

     3. Embrace change

     4. Build a teamwork culture based on honesty and family values

     5. Be frugal, be humble

1.  Provide some ‘wow’

Most people manage to achieve what is expected of them. However, you will notice in life that those who get ahead have usually strived beyond their baseline duties to surpass the mediocre standards in their industry. It is in fact often observed that the happiest and most successful employees are those who simply do more than the bare minimum.  At DCA, we do not consider ourselves an average company. Our service isn’t average, our website isn’t average, and our PCs are not average. So it naturally follows that our people aren’t average either. We want those around us to feel our enthusiasm, and in each and every encounter, receive some ‘wow’.

At DCA, we ‘wow‘ by being different. We ‘wow’ by innovating and having the drive to go above and beyond what is expected. We ‘wow’ by making sure what we do is not just good service, but service that sets the benchmark for others to aspire to. We ‘wow’ by ensuring our customers, vendors and our co-workers all walk away feeling some emotional impact from their encounter with us.  ‘Wow’ also results in good word of mouth.

‘Wow’ means that we are passionate and determined. We see obstacles as challenges to be overcome and we have the commitment to seeing the solutions through. We bring passion and determination to everything we do and every encounter we have.

At DCA we ‘wow’ with experience, accuracy and service, rather than lip service and giveaways.

If it’s worth doing, let’s do it with ‘wow’.

2.  Have fun and be an individual!

We spend a great deal of our lives with our co-workers. Life is too short to refrain from laughing and having fun at work.

At DCA, we value having fun and being an individual. We need to be able to laugh at ourselves and to see the humour in the challenges that come our way. This is an essential part of our culture, and if we are able to approach challenges with a smile, then this will facilitate our ability to solve problems creatively.

This means being an individual. We are not asking for ‘out there’ individuality. Rather, we are saying that at DCA, we appreciate our people’s little quirks and idiosyncrasies. It makes for an interesting work place, and an interesting work place is a great place to be and thrive.

Individuality is also a sign of originality of thought. It shows that a person is not afraid to take a chance and stand out from the crowd. Individuality demonstrates passion, courage and a spirit of adventure, qualities prized at DCA.  People who are individuals also tend to be open minded, an essential trait at DCA where we embrace change and continuous learning.

Fun and individuality are also at the core of DCA’s culture. We celebrate and promote diversity by encouraging individuals and fresh new approaches. This helps us think outside the square, judge less and learn more.  It further helps us to approach every new situation with enthusiasm, creativity, and energy. By having engaged and fun-loving staff, DCA has the ingredients for an innovative work place where everyone is committed to delivering their best and finding creative solutions to challenges.

3.  Embrace change

Change is the catalyst for growth, and growth is the catalyst for change. To grow is to change, and also to learn and stretch ourselves beyond our comfort zones. We stop growing and learning the minute we start to fear change.

As DCA grows, we need to be prepared to embrace and drive constant change, and to embrace the challenges that change brings. Not just professionally, but personally as well. Companies that have refused to challenge the status quo, to adapt and to evolve, have stagnated as a result. These companies simply fail in the digital world.

This is especially true at the coalface of the IT industry where WE thrive. We embrace changing technology and as such, we need to embrace changes to the ways we work and think.

Embracing change also means that we welcome learning as a tool for growth. We need to be open to new ideas in order to unlock the potential within all of us. As we master the concept of embracing and bringing about change, we must perceive mistakes as learning opportunities, and not be afraid of making them. We must be bold and take risks, and find new creative solutions. This also means that we will not get bored with our work, and we will constantly find new challenges for ourselves.

It is also a common fallacy to think that change and learning is driven top-down in companies. Change comes from everywhere. Change needs to be driven by YOU. You who deal with our customers continually and know instinctively what will work and what will not work.

As we constantly evolve, WE will set the benchmark for service quality, website functionality, delivery capability, and superior PC configuration. Our competitors can attempt to copy our website and our computers, however, they cannot copy our people, our culture, and our service.  As change -embracing members of the DCA team, our fearlessness will be what sets us apart from the competition. If we embrace change and learning, no one will be able keep up with us.

As Aldous Huxley once said: “Life is not what happens to us, but what we do with what happens to us.”

4.  Build a team culture based on honesty and family values

At DCA we believe it is important that people feel they are in a family environment when they are at work as well as home. That people care about them at work and are looking out for them; and that there are people at work with whom they can communicate openly and trust.

We believe that openness and honesty leads to trust and faith.  We base all our relationships on trust and faith because it makes for a confident and comfortable workplace where we can build strong relationships that can withstand constant change, and the risks the business will need to take to grow. Such relationships will also help us accomplish more.

A family spirit is what differentiates DCA from other companies. We believe that building a company culture where a sense of family spirit is at the centre of all we do, will enable us to be more cohesive. A family spirit engenders trust as well as loyalty, and allows us to emotionally connect with each other. A family spirit fosters ownership that is required to take the initiative to seek out problems that need resolving and to repair things that need fixing. DCA is not about a ‘them’ and an ‘us’, but rather is about building an ‘us’ together.

Having a family spirit at DCA also means that we behave with compassion. It means we always demonstrate the utmost integrity and loyalty in our all dealings. It means we communicate with honesty and integrity.

Many companies provide the most profitable solutions to their customers, rather than the ‘best’ solutions. Or they take the short route by allowing the customer to make a misguided purchase decision, when really, just a bit more effort and dialogue will correct a misconception. At DCA it is our mission to provide true and accurate information that honestly assists the customer in making the best purchase decision.

Communication is often the weakest link in many companies. At DCA, we believe that through communicating openly, honestly and tactfully, we can build an effective work culture that thrives on understanding, and a company that is more passionate and committed.

At the end of the day, it is not just about what we say and do, but how we make each other feel. Open communication, loyalty, compassion, honesty and integrity are the tools we use to connect with each other and make each other feel good. This is how we build a better, stronger DCA that is willing to take on the challenges it needs to grow.

5.  Be frugal, be humble

In companies, as within families, members need to be thrifty with resources, and ensure those resources are dispensed in the most effective ways possible. As we continue to grow, resources will always be scarce, and therefore we really need to be able to do more with less. In a team environment, this is often a key ingredient in fending off the competition.

At DCA, we believe we need to be efficient and practical, yet not arrogant in any way. Quiet and humble confidence goes a long way. We need to be focused and serious about getting things done with what we have. This means working smart, not just hard. It means putting in the hard yards to get things done. Working with frugality will help us be innovative and will stop us resting on our laurels.

Doing more with less also means that we recognise there is room for constant improvement. Our work is never done. To stay ahead of the competition, we need to be constantly innovative not just in our PC configurations, but in our delivery capability, customer service, and our website. We need to make incremental improvements in everything we do.

Not only should we make continual improvement, we must also do it with a sense of urgency. In the digital age, we can be sure that the competition is keeping a close eye on us. If we don’t do what we need to do urgently, we will be washed over by a wave of competition.

This also means never settling for ‘good enough’, as it is the foremost enemy of ‘great’. While our goal is to become a good company, we need to aim at being the best service company in Australia. DCA’s name needs to become synonymous with service quality, excellence, accuracy and efficiency.

If you are a DCA team member, you are vitally important to us, and the company will do its best to look after you. Please do your best to look after the company.
